There are 3 different types of collections in Lightroom: Collections - used to group photos together and access them across all Lightroom panels. Smart Collections - used to gather images together automatically using criteria you set.
Collection Sets - used for organizing collections and smart collections. Collections can be used in a variety of ways. With collections, you can drag images into a collection or create a new collection but those images and their original files will stay in their organized folder in Lightroom and the hard drive. If I need to change the size of the images for a different editor, I simply open that collection and export the images at a different size. Another way you can use collections is by collecting images from many different folders into one source.
For example, you could use this to keep track of images you want to add to your website portfolio. This could also be used as a way to organize family photos.
Simply put, collections are an easy way to organize batches of photos that may be in a variety of different folders. Works like a charm! I recently bought a DJI Mini 2 drone and am trying to set up a smart collection, but I must be missing something. Nothing seems to be working. Could Lightroom be seeing the drone camera as something different than what I am typing in? Collections disappeared after disconnecting external drive with images from Macbook Pro where catalouge was house.

If I edit an image that is in a collection is there a way to have those edits applied to the original image within the folder from where it came? If not, do I have to re import those images from the collection back to the original folder. When you edit an image, you are editing the same file regardless of whether you clicked on it in the Collection or if you clicked on it in a folder.
