When was nikon d5100 introduced
The D was the first Nikon digital-SLR camera equipped with the vari-angle monitor that allows users to enjoy flexible shooting from a wide variety of angles. The vari-angle monitor adopted for the D has been enlarged to three inches, and utilizes a side hinge that enables flexible use from more angles with hand-held shooting and when the camera is mounted on a tripod.
The camera is also equipped with the D-Movie function that supports recording of full-HD X p, 30p movies, as well as a Special Effects mode with which a variety of special effects can be applied to still images and movies. The D was designed to respond to the needs of a broad range of users, from those using a digital-SLR camera for the first time, to those looking for a camera that allows them to express their individual sense of creativity through still images and movies.
These features enable capture of high-resolution images with excellent expression of tones. With standard sensitivity settings of ISO — and additional increases up to Hi 2 ISO equivalent , the camera offers improved capability with shooting under dim lighting, such as in the evening or indoors, and also produces better results with capture of rapidly moving subjects. The High Dynamic Range HDR function captures two shots of varying exposure each time the shutter-release button is pressed, and then combines the two shots into a single image with a broad dynamic range.
Resulting images beautifully recreate the scene as seen with the naked eye, even with shooting of backlit scenes, with little or no loss of detail in shadows or highlights.
Visibility has been increased with the large 3-inch, approximately k-dot high-resolution vari-angle monitor adopted for the D In addition, the range of colors that can be reproduced by the monitor is equivalent to that of the sRGB gamut. Adoption of a side hinge for the vari-angle monitor prevents the monitor from hitting the tripod when it is opened while the camera is mounted on a tripod. This enables shooting from a wide variety of angles, from low to high, making even self portraits possible.

More about gear in this article. Even 18 months after its release date, people are still arguing about the merits of the D vs D Which one is best? The D has a Nikon F-mount, which means there are hundreds of compatible lenses for this camera.
In fact, the F-mount system is backward compatible, so you could use lenses dating all the way back to the s with this camera. There are many third-party options available as well. One small issue with the D is that it does not feature an internal focusing motor. This means that it will not provide autofocus capabilities with older lenses.
However, when paired with modern Nikon lenses like those from the G and AF-S lines, you can reap the benefits of the fast and accurate autofocus system in this camera. When looking for compatible lenses, look for ones with built-in optical image stabilization.
But with so many pre-owned Ds floating around out there, buying used is a great way to save even more money. Just be sure that when you buy used that you buy through a reputable outfit, like Lensfinder. With built-in fraud protections, Lensfinder has your back when you choose to purchase a camera or lens or filter through their platform. Plus, with fees less than what you find on eBay and dedicated listings only for photography gear, you can save more money without having to search through tons of non-related items as you often do on other platforms.
Besides, with a good selection of lenses, you can find a great lens to go with your D and have a new-to-you-kit on the cheap. Sure, there are newer and fancier entry-level cameras on the market, but for my money, the D represents a great balance of quality, features, and price.
